What is the color we need for 2015? The Pantone Color of the Year will feed our mind, body, and soul with Marsala, 18-1428 on the Pantone scale. Known to be a fortified red wine or a spice, Marsala is robust, earthy, sophisticated, hearty, stylish, and fulfilling.

Leatrice Eiseman, the Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute says, “Marsala makes for an elegant, grounded statement” and the hue is versatile for both men and women, unlike last years color, Radiant Orchard.

Marsala in Interior Design

Marsala is a great color to put on walls of a kitchen or dining room area with its wine red and brown undertones. This color is actually an appetite simulant, making it ideal for dining room linens, tabletop décor, and even upholstered furniture. Marsala is color that will pair well with a variety of colors that are already in a home and can even be found on printed dining placemats as shown in the photo below.

Marsala in Beauty and Fashion

The warm and sophisticated color is a shade that has been used in many lipsticks and blushes because it can be flattering on many skin tones. The brown, earthy undertone in Marsala gives makeup and clothing a natural feeling that never goes out of style. There is no doubt that Marsala will be seen in clothing for both men and women in 2015 because this elegant color pairs well with women’s jewelry and handbags and men’s shoes and suit ties. We can already see this color trend developing in many ways on the Pantone Masala Pinterest page.

What Marsala Pairs Well With

Whether it’s paired with colors in the home, closet, or makeup palette, Marsala is fulfilling when layered with metallics or other bronzy tones for the perfect earthy feel. Teals or blue greens will also pair well since they are opposites from Marsala on the color wheel and it’s the perfect balance between warm and cool tones.
