Pantone Color of 2013: Emerald Gets the Crown

Pantone Color of 2013: Emerald Gets the Crown

In 2011, we were both “captivated and stimulated” by the bold presence of Honeysuckle Pink. Then in 2012, we were ignited by the “heat and energy” of Tangerine Tango. Now in 2013, we are harnessing that energy and fueling our journey of growth, renewal, and regeneration. For indeed the color gods have spoken, and it has been declared that Pantone’s Emerald shall begin its reign as color royalty for the next year.

With a new year, comes a new direction, and Emerald is here to the lead the way on our path to prosperity. This vivid, verdant shade of green aims to “enhance our sense of well-being further by inspiring insight, as well as promoting balance and harmony,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.

“Since antiquity, this luminous, magnificent hue has been the color of beauty and new life in many cultures and religions,” said Eiseman in a press release. “It’s also the color of growth, renewal and prosperity – no other color conveys regeneration more than green.“

The prevalence of green has been steadily stealing the show in a variety of forums, primarily in the fashion and couture markets, and even on the red carpet.

Pantone’s 2013 color has already been announced as the noteworthy headliner for the spring collections of Tracy Reese, Nanette Lepore, Barbara Tfank, NAHM and Marimekko.

Pantone Color of 2013: Emerald Beauty retailer Sephora plans to launch its limited edition Color of the Year beauty collection in March, which will feature products in Emerald.

JCPenney will also be getting in on the color action as they announced plans to release products, ranging from bedding to stemware, in Emerald beginning Feb. 1. “As we re-energize our home department next spring, we are excited to partner with the leading authority on color to introduce the first-ever line of Pantone bedding and bath products,” said Paul Rutenis, JCPenney general merchandise manager for home.

Pantone invests a great deal of effort into the selection of the annual color of the year. The impact of this single decision reaches into almost every industry.

“For more than a decade, Pantone’s Color of the Year has influenced product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, home and industrial design, as well as product packaging and graphic design,” the news release said.
